Meet Caroline
Illustrations by Robert Papp
(This is the same guy who did Lanie’s, Mia’s and Jess’ illustrations. Also apparently his wife, Lisa Papp, did the vignettes in Caroline’s series, so that’s some fun trivia for you guys.)

Troubles for Cécile
Illustrations by Christine Kornacki
(The second and last pictures in this set I think are the best pieces of art in the entire series; the coloring does a fantastic job of setting a strong atmosphere and in the last picture the characters actually LOOK EACH OTHER IN THE EYES and HAVE GENUINE EMOTION AND HUMANITY. My only complaint is that the Cécile standing tall pieceworks better as a cover, not as an in-story illustration)
Marie-Grace and the Orphans
Illustrations by Christine Kornacki
(First piece I genuinely like: the first picture in this photoset. It has a good composition and I enjoy the coloring.)

(There are so many negative things I want to say about the illustrations for Marie-Grace’s/Cecile’s series, but I won’t say them here on this blog because I don’t want to be an asshole. I’ll just point out the few good pieces of artwork I like.)
I have also been working with another of American Girl’s wonderful Art Directors Paula Riley onAmerican Girl Magazine. It is such a great magazine, it makes me wish I was a young American girl! I illustrated this fun quiz for their September / October 2012 issue.
I illustrated is this super fun book for American Girl entitled ‘Picture Yourself Here’ by Kristi Thom, Art Direction and Design by Gretchen Becker. American Girl are one of my favourite companies to work with and I had so much fun illustrating this book and now using it too!Picture Yourself Here is a mixture of punch-out illustrations and scenes to stick your own photo’s in. Once you have created all of the silly scenes it makes a lovely book to keep as a fun photo album!
Huh, most of the artists that have done work for AG don’t have a tumblr, so this was nice to see in the American Girl tag! Thanks for sharing your work, Lauren! :D
Here’s the version of Emily you’ll see in newer books; the one where Emily has longer hair. I guess they changed the length of her hair because she was going to be made into a doll and long-hair dolls probably sell better.
You can compare the above illustrations with the original, short-haired Emily here. Before anyone asks, there’s no edits made on the 3rd picture with Molly and Emily in the basement. I think it’s because Emily’s hair is hidden enough that you can’t really tell it’s true length.
